Dhangethi Island & Perla Guesthouse

Famous for its wide lagoon and all year round whale shark and manta ray sightings, Dhangethi is a truly magical place, where you’ll get to get to experience island culture and the most amazing marine life. Located just 48 kms, two hours on a speedboat, from Male airport, Dhangethi lies in the South Ari Atoll and has a population of less than 1000. It is just under 1km long and 350m wide!

Perla Guesthouse

Perla is in the heart of Dhangethi, on the main street which runs across the island from the marina through to the jetty. Run by Siro and his wife Ihkko, the guesthouse is the only one with a pool on the island. The rooms are small but comfortable consisting of either deluxe double rooms, or family suites.

Siro and his right-hand man Ali are our main guides on all our excursions. They’re really knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.

Frequently Asked Questions

These hubs are for families who love travelling with their kids. However, as most of the activities are water based, they aren’t suitable for little kids. Our minimum age is 8, however we will consider aged 6 years if there are older symptoms. There must be one adult per child under 10.

These hubs are primarily about the whole family joining in together so you are responsible for your own children. When another adult in a family group is able to supervise the children, and if there’s a one-to-one ratio of adult to child for every child under 10, then we have had parents opt out of activities to work. However, you will still need to pay the full cost of the trip.

Dhangethi is a local island in the Maldives, it is NOT a resort island. With it being Muslim, the local islands are alcohol free. You can buy 0% beer at the guesthouse and other restaurants, but alcoholic drinks cannot be purchased on the island at all.

On our boat trips, at the guesthouse pool and at the local ‘tourist/bikini beach’ then swimwear/bikinis are fine. However, when walking to the beach, to or from the boat or anywhere outside the guesthouse then shorts, skirts, dresses, t-shirts and tops must be worn. Please don’t wear anything sheer, see-through or netted (with lots of holes in).
